“Science is both a body of knowledge that represents the current understanding of natural systems, and the process whereby that body of knowledge has been established and is continually extended, refined, and revised. Because science is both the knowledge of the natural world and the processes that have established this knowledge, science education must address both of these aspects” -CDE, 2020

The Cherry Creek School District believes that EVERY student can learn science at the highest levels for college and career readiness. We believe that every innovative and culturally responsive science classroom requires:
- All students to engage in rigorous, meaningful science anchored in real-world phenomena to build a deeper conceptual understanding of the world around them
- All teachers to design learning experiences that are responsive to the needs and assets of each student
- Classroom systems, structures, rituals and routines that allow students to ask questions, make sense of their own learning, communicate their understanding effectively, and apply science to real-world settings
The Science Teaching and Learning Framework is used in teaching the Colorado Academic Standards
to meet the needs of EVERY student EVERY day.
The "Effective Science Teaching Practices Continuum" is designed to frame what the development of teaching practices looks like along a learning, growth, and development trajectory. Teachers and teams can reference this continuum to self-assess current strengths, and areas of growth.

The instructional framework for science is divided into three components: "Student Practices," "Teacher Practices," and "Routines." Taken together, these comprehensively describe high-quality science teaching and learning. Click on the icons below for more detailed information.
